GRATITUDE ?
Last few months haven’t been easy on us⊠With the earthquake, coronavirus and the overall uncertainty, most of us felt overwhelmed with feelings of helplessness, insecurity and anxiety.
Because of that, we would like to encourage you to think about the positives in your life, something about you’re grateful for! Why? Because thinking about it can contribute to our feeling of gratitude and overall well-being.
Moreover, expressing gratitude can help us in preserving our well-being, mental health through our lifetime and prompt positive behaviours. It increases positive affect, while reducing negative ones. Furthermore, experience shows that expressing gratitude in children and young people improves their relationships, making them more positive by making friends easily and feeling better in company of other, which can contribute to their happiness and life satisfaction. Bonus pointâ gratitude can even have positive impact on our physical health!
As one can conclude by reading this, feeling grateful and expressing gratitude has many positive benefits, not only to us, but to those around us! Really, gratitude is just like magic! ?
On the other hand, it is important to note that feeling grateful is not a simple emotion. It is actually a complex emotion, which only emerges when we have developed a certain degree of sense of self and others who’ve made something good for us. Thus, expressing gratitude on a regular basis usually turns up when in preadolescent age.
Why are we writing this? Well, it was shown that even listing thing we’re grateful for, can lead to positive benefits on our well-being. On that note, we want to encourage you to make your own Letter of Gratitude! Write a letter expressing gratitude to another person, event, thing or even yourself, mentioning reasons why are you feeling grateful. But know that this is an activity for both BIG and SMALL.
âGratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.â – Cicero
